Body Language, Gestures, Emphasis of Valdez Lessons on August 28th

Brittney Valdez

Hot off a second-place finish at the Chicagoland Dance Festival last weekend with her new partner Ronnie DeBenedetta, UCWDC Division 1 Couples World Champion and Masters Competitor Brittney Valdez returns to teach at West Coast Wednesdays (WCW) on August 28th.

Brittney is eager to provide West Coast Swing (WCS) dancers with ways to approach non-verbal communication in the course of a song. “Don’t you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do,” Brittney says jokingly. “Even if the joke makes you groan, the concept, when applied to dance, is spot on.”

“WCS is not just two people going through a series of patterns or moves, where people try to assume what his/her partner is doing. It’s non-verbal communication between partners that requires both the leader and follower to both ‘speak’ and ‘listen’ at the same time, to make the dance (between the two), a true conversation.”

“We’ll explore some of those non-verbal techniques in the internediate-level-and-above class this week, as well as making sure we have a good grasp of the basics in the novice/beginner class,” Brittney says.

Come along the journey in Brittney’s lessons this week, as she covers:

  • For the 7:00 novice/beginner-level lesson – West Coast Swing 101 – Get the basics to get you on the floor as a first-time dancer; or enhance your basics and keep your WCS foundation solid.
  • For the 7:45 intermediate-level lesson – The Art of Communication – Adapting to what your partner does on the dance floor by both listening and speaking…without saying a word.
